Patricia J. Nelson is a founding shareholder in Nelson, Irvings & Waeffler. She concentrates her practice on issues of concern to the elderly, the disabled and their families. Pat’s goal is to help clients understand their choices in navigating through unfamiliar and complex systems. Her practice includes: special needs trusts; advance planning for illness and incapacity; nursing home and home care issues; Title XIX eligibility; Social Security, Supplemental Security Income and Medicare payment issues; and estate planning.

Pat received her law degree from Marquette University in 1974. She was a staff and managing attorney with Legal Action of Wisconsin until 1981, when she joined the faculty of Marquette University Law School and directed the Legal Clinic for the Elderly. Pat entered private practice in 1990.

Pat is on the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Wisconsin Elder Law Section and is a member of the Milwaukee Bar Association Elder Law Section and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. She is co-author of the Medicaid Chapter of the State Bar publication, Advising Older Clients, and is a frequent speaker to professional and community organizations on legal issues relating to aging and disability. She has an AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale - Hubbell, awarded to lawyers recognized for the highest levels of skill and integrity, and is listed in the Best Lawyers of America and Wisconsin Super Lawyers. She has been named by Milwaukee Magazine as one of Milwaukee’s Best Elder Law Attorneys.
